How is God Working? Layhill church and her people have dealt with this pandemic in the fact that the church IS NOT A BUILDING and or a place….but a body of Believers. We have adapted and learned from each other in how to do and be the church. Via zoom, small groups, and video worship. The continuation of meeting those in need has reinforced the message that the mission of the church will never die.

Opal Foster

Birth Place: Opal’s Birth place: Spanishtown, Jamaica, WI

Family members: Children: Jeremiah Foster

Profession: Graphic designer

How did you end up at Layhill? As a busy single parent, I have the tendency to wait until the last minute. In classic style, I waited to the last minute to find a summer camp for Jeremiah last year. Late last May, a flyer for 5 Star Kids Camp come home in Jeremiah’s bookbag. I came to check out the camp and really liked Ms. Angie and how much fun the proposed activities would be. During camp, Jeremiah enjoyed himself tremendously and the staff handled his occasional impulsive nature with grace and patience. At the Parents Nights last year, we really enjoyed how hospitable the staff was and I liked that Jeremiah was learning about Christ at camp. We started coming shortly after 5 Star Kids Camp ended last year.

How many years have you been at Layhill? About a year

What makes you laugh? Jeremiah’s silly dance moves, his laugh, hanging out with my nieces and nephews

Cherished Church Memory: I grew up Seventh-Day Adventist, so I grew up singing a lot of traditional hymns. I still love the lyric from those hymns and began my appreciation of music in church.

Favorite Scripture: I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Jeremiah 29:11 KJV:

A person past or present you would like to meet…why? Maya Angelou, because she embodies the kind of person I’d like to become. She was a writer, a philanthropist and overall creative person.

How is God Working? God has recently provided me with employment. I was unemployed from December 26, 2018 – June 16, 2019 but Jeremiah and I never missed a meal and He kept a roof over our head. But my period of employment was also a blessing because it allowed me to go back to school for a semester to help further my career.

What is your dream ministry? (What has God placed on your heart?) Starting a children’s ministry for individuals with special needs. A lot of times, families with children with special needs will stay away from church because they are not sure how their children will be received, transportation or mobility concerns, or if their child is medically fragile, etc. I’d love to see a ministry that is willing to work with families at their level of care and provide the Gospel as well.
